Hi everybody, Andy here with etrailer.com. Let's take a real quick look together at this Andersen Aluminum Ultimate fifth wheel connection to gooseneck version. Now, this is going to be a popular choice for those who tow fifth wheel trailers and they want a lightweight, easy-to-use gooseneck compatible solution. This is going to work with all standard brands of gooseneck hitches, and this is going to be lightweight, but yet very strong and very durable. This is made out of aircraft-grade aluminum and it weighs under 40 pounds, which is going to be significantly lighter than your traditional steel fifth wheel hitches that can weigh up to 100 pounds, if not more. But despite this being light, this is rated to tow up to 24,000 pounds gross trailer weight rating and 4,500 pounds tongue weight.
Now, taking a slightly closer look here, one person is gonna be able to install and remove this in less than five minutes. I think you can see from that angle, this has handles on either side here, so this is gonna be very easy to lift and position this where you need it and get it set into place or to remove it. So no tools are required. This is just going to drop onto your gooseneck ball and secure with this pin and clip. So no need to install a heavy fifth wheel hitch rail system, which is gonna save you time, money, and truck bed space as well.
Now, the funnel on this kingpin coupler, and this coupler will be mounted onto your kingpin on your trailer, this is going to give you four inches of offset and that's going to eliminate the hassle of perfectly lining up the hitch ball with your kingpin. This is going to be helpful, especially if you're towing with a short bed truck where clearance between the cab and trailer during sharp turns can be tight. I wanted to bring this handle up just so you could see here closer. This does feature a patented remote latching system, which is going to enable quick hitching and unhitching without climbing into the bed of the truck. So you're gonna mount this like on your trailer and then you're gonna be able to easily disconnect.
So I went ahead and unlocked this so I could easily disconnect this from the ball. And then when I'm ready to connect this back, I'm just gonna push this in like so, and then that's going to give me that secure connection as you can see. And then you'll just twist that into the lock position and that's gonna prevent this from easily pulling out. So you're not gonna have to worry about this becoming uncoupled or anything as you're going down the road. So this is going to be just a great easy solution to connect and uncouple, but also give you that offset that you're looking for as well.
And you see that funnel there on the bottom. So it's gonna be relatively maintenance-free as well. And we also have three height adjustments here. And at the highest position, it's going to be 19-1/8 inches tall. In the middle position that I have it right now, it's gonna be 17-7/8 inches tall. And then at the lowest position, it's going to be 16-3/4 inches tall. And that's measuring from the bed of the truck to the top of the ball mount. And so all you have to do is remove the pin and clip here. And so that's going to allow you to get that height adjustment that you're looking for. Let me just go ahead and move it to the tallest point there. So very simple to get that adjustment that you're looking for. And of course, that's going to ensure that your trailer rides level, which is crucial for proper weight distribution and safe towing. It's gonna help accommodate different truck bed heights and so on. So what I really like about this is it's lightweight, yet very capable, very strong, very durable, easy to disconnect and connect, and easy to get that height adjustment. Working perfectly with over 500 miles into our first trip with it installed. Incredibly lightweight and well made. So far I’m very happy with it. I’d give the product 4.5 stars for overall build quality and design. I’m disappointed with etrailer delivery though. I ordered from etrailer because delivery was originally scheduled for the upcoming Saturday which was perfect. I even paid a little more buying from them because of this fact rather than use the manufacturer who was actually having a 10% sale. However 2 days after ordering from etrailer the delivery date unexpectedly changed for both parts ordered and was now going to be 4 days later than anticipated. I could have saved 10% to get the same later delivery time from Andersen. This delay caused unnecessary stress and created logistical headaches for me getting it installed. Sure UPS is unreliable, but when I called etrailer to inquire about the delays I didn’t get much of an explanation for this delay. It did finally arrive 4 days late with a damaged exterior box, but luckily the hitch was mostly fine with just a couple scrapes and two of the base foot pads knocked off.
The hitch is light weight and installed easily. It looks to be of high quality, however I reserve the 5 stars until after I have actually towed with it.
This is hard to rate. It hits 10/10 in many areas - light weight, easy hitching & unhitching, quiet while towing, good truck cab clearance. But I'm not thrilled with the basic design putting so much force on the bed of the truck, having just a single point of attachment, needing a torque wrench to put it in and out. If it fit my OEM puck system with quick disconnects it would have been better.
Works well on my 2017 GMC 2500 with the 6 foot bed was able to push the camper back 8 inches very satisfied
Yes the product is all that and the bag of chips it says Pulling a Jayco seismic 395. no bed noise, connection feels secure. 3k miles pulled so far. if you have a 5th wheel convert to this asap its lite the trailer drops on to it like a bumper pull. I would recommend and purchase again.
Beautiful Hitch,easy set up. The Ball and Pin adapter was securely attached to the frame(good job Andersen), but the Ultimate Connection Adapter was not, hence it was bouncing around inside the box and everyone knows UPS is rough on customers packages. Adapter could easily have been secured to the hitch frame!! Overall, love the quality. Will not get to use the hitch for several more day's, we will be trading in our current travel trailer for a 5th wheel at the dealership.
Hitch is light for removal purposes however there are some down sides.
Having to raise camper to almost full extension to hook and unhook is a drawback. There is still plenty of jerking motion while pulling our 29' fifth wheel camper with our 2020 GMC DENALI 2500 Diesel.
